Who I Am

I am Ebony Lucas and I am running for Alderman of the 4th Ward in Chicago. I am running because I have the vision, knowledge, and experience to bring the development, access to resources, open communication, and accountability that 4th ward residents deserve.  As a mother of 4 children, attorney, and small business owner, I am  vested in the success of the 4th Ward and the City of Chicago.

I have demonstrated my commitment to the community throughout my career.  After graduating from University of Michigan in Elementary Education, I taught first grade with Teach for America.  I continued my education obtaining a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management from Case Western University and worked as a fundraiser for United Way and Mercy Education Project, a women’s literacy program.  Desiring to have a larger impact on my community, I returned to University of Michigan and completed my law degree in 2004.  For the past 8 years, I have practiced real estate law fighting for distressed homeowners and condominium associations in the 4th ward and throughout the city.

In addition to my work as an attorney, I have been actively involved in the Dearborn Realtist Board providing education to first time home buyers.  I also started and am president of the 41st and Ellis Block Club.  I am president of the Mandrake Park Advisory council and have been instrumental in increasing programming, visibility, and cleanliness of the park.  I am a sponsor of the Hyde Park Kenwood Legends baseball team; 4th on 53rdParade, Committee Member; and have been a member of local community organizations including BARCC and CCoB.

As Alderman, I will:

  • Increase safety and improve community relationships by ensuring access to city resources and increase collaboration between the schools, park district, police department, and community based organizations.
  • Market under-developed areas of the Ward and provide resources for business development and job creation.
  • Increase opportunities for exposure to arts, music, foreign language, science, academic games, and sports for public school students.
  • Support programs and be responsive to the needs of seniors, veterans, and residents with special needs.
  • Develop a community advisory board and hold weekly town hall meetings to provide opportunities for resident input, ongoing communication, follow up, and collaboration to keep residents engaged in the operations of the 4th Ward and Chicago City Council.
